| 05.16.08 Google's Open Social Welcomes imeem By Bruce Houghton Open Social Now Reaches 300 Million. During the Google Open Social Summit today at the Googlex, imeem is announcing support for OpenSocial via their Media Platform for a third party developers. With the addition of imeem, OpenSocial now reaches a potential 300 million users via MySpace, Friendster and other social networking sites that have joined the initiative. Developers can now port existing OpenSocial applications to imeem, the third largest social networking site in the US with over 24 million users. They can also extend the capabilities of those applications with imeem-specific OpenSocial extensions, which allow developers to access media metadata from JavaScript. This means that developers build JavaScript, HTML and Adobe Flex media applications that access imeems catalog of music, video, and photo content. The imeem Media Platform first launched March 24, 2008. This includes the ability to get back a specific users media, search for media in imeems vast media library, as well as get access to music, video, and photo content on imeem.
