WebProWorld Members,

I'm back! Did you miss me? Just kidding! It's been a week since my last newsletter, so what did I miss? It has been crazy around the office. We have grown so much since I started. Today, we built a new studio to do all of our online videos. Check it out soon, on WebProNews.com.

Our featured post today comes from thepoacher. They recently designed and set up three microsites, to gain some footing in rankings and to create some interest in the larger site to come later. Each of these microsites is effectively the launch of a new brand 'tied' to an already existing site with content.

The remaining posts talk about; content validation effects on search engine rankings. The next post is having duplicate sites-problem w/ 301 redirect to site parked on top. Our final post today needs some help with the "nofollow" tag and how it can be implemented to help the internal link structure of a website?

Benefits of Microsites?

Benefits of Microsites?
We were recently commissioned to design and set up three microsites at short notice - primarily to gain some footing in rankings and to drum up some interest in the destinations before we tackle the larger project of complete sites later in the year.

As it stands each of these microsites is effectively the launch of a new brand 'tied' to an already existing site with content; and as such each page of the microsite is linked to pages on these 'mother' sites. The link is made explicit and there is nothing underhand involved but I just wondered if ultimately these would be seen as feeder sites as opposed to precursors to larger, stand alone brands.

The sites are Senegal Holidays - The Senegal Experience, Sardinia Holidays with Sardinian Places and Holidays in Sicily - Sicilian Places

Any advice or information on this would be greatly appreciated

Site for Review www.sinsofasolarempire.com

Hello. We are just about to launch our first title and I wanted to get some fresh eyes on the site and get a report on the flow of the site. Can you navigate easily? Which areas do you get hung up? Is the sites intent clear, intriguing? Sins of a Solar Empire

Content Validation

I am working on content validation part for my site. I read the content validation guidelines on w3.org. Its really difficult. But can any one tell me is that effects on my search engine rankings.

Please answer these question:

1. Is the content validation increase search engine visibility??
2. Is my site ranking will improve if my site content is validated??
3. What if the content is not validated??

Duplicate sites-problem w/ 301 redirect to site parked on top

We have a site georgiasmiles.com that is parked on top of a duplicate site -- atlantacenterforcosmeticdentistry.com. But it is Georgiasmiles that is the one indexed pretty good by Google and it looks like the atlantacenterforcosmeticdentistry.com site is being filtered out for duplicate content.

We thought we could just do a 301 redirect or do a DNS change (although we are concerned about the DNS change losing our good rankings).

Here's the Problem: When we try to do a 301 redirect from atlantacenterforcosmeticdentistry.com to georgiasmiles, it simply redirects to the main account which is still atlantacenterforcosmeticdentistry.com. When we put the required line of code in the .htaccess file and attempt to go to atlantacenterforcosmeticdentistry.com it will bounce between the sites forming a redirection loop till the page times out and fails to load.

SEO 101
The "nofollow" tag

Can you explain the "nofollow" tag and how it can be implemented to help the internal link structure of a Web site and improve the flow of link juice.

From SEOmoz:
"We nofollowed dozens of links on many of our template pages to help control the flow of link juice through to our more important pages - the content in the Blog, YOUmoz, Marketplace, and Articles."

Apparently, this benefited their Web site: SEOmoz | Sculpting with Nofollow Works Pretty Darn Well

Should I apply the "nofollow" tag to my navigation so that less important pages like Terms, Privacy, etc. will redirect their link juice to more important pages?
